2025 Reflection

From mudfairy's reflective questions! I already kinda looked back on 2025, but this is a nice little food for thought thing to wrap up the year (and push away my grief post on goatlings) LOL.

Grief (goodbye Goatlings)

asuraid: Sylvie, an original character, with a tired and disgruntled expression. (tired)
[personal profile] asuraid

This is just a sad post, more of a diary than blog of me grieving over losing a comfort site I used to visit on and off for years.

It's weird, I am still watching a site be alive, but know it's in its final sunset days.

If you follow me on Neocities you know I've been making a shrine around Goatlings, a virtual pet site around ... err, well, goats. It's recently been marked for shutdown by the owner, after years of lack of transparency for costs/upcoming updates, staff coming out about lack of communication, overworking, and shit pay ... and the fact that once it was revealed that the new admins that were coming in—after the owner had said she'd step down—had one of the admin's IP address match the owner's, and the PayPal buy links still led to hers ... it all kinda imploded.

... to be honest, I should probably wait until the last day of December, but I whole-heartedly can't be assed to wait when I'm done writing! If anything else miraculously comes up in the last 2 weeks before 2026, I'll add them afterwards.

November wrap-up

asuraid: A chibi version of Sylvie, an original Genshin Character, smiling at the camera. (neutral)
[personal profile] asuraid

Not quite the end of the month, but I'm expecting basically nothing else to happen tomorrow on a Sunday. In terms of my goals last month, I did not return to journaling, unfortunately, but I've been trying to keep up with my site diary at the very least. I have been doing exercise almost daily (on weekdays anyway) since getting my miniature treadmill, and doing more cooking in my rice cooker.

Although I didn't finish my deviantART mock page, I did do my second template, and third ... and to be fair, with my website gutting, that took a shelved priority.

Site layout woes

Nov. 17th, 2025 12:27 am
asuraid: Sylvie, an original character, drawn in a shitty MS Paint style with a dismembered arm in their exaggerated teeth. (chomp)
[personal profile] asuraid

God it pisses me off to be struck with the desire to change my layout, and I hate how strong the feeling is. I'm sure it'll eventually wean off, but it leads me down a mental rabbithole of 'I wish it was easier to have my content set up in such a way that if I decide to pursue layout changes it won't break the content' and 'I want full control over the HTML I'm using' which is what puts me off from static site generators.

Hobbies turned to jobbies

asuraid: A drawing of Sylvie, an original Genshin character, with a thinking expression. (thinking)
[personal profile] asuraid

Half a joking title, half not. It's mostly something I've been thinking on since I've caught myself thinking today that I should open myself up to custom website commissions that are more on the whimsical fun side and not Boring Modern Corporate (part of this was stress with trying to figure out my developer contract right now and stressing that I might lose it just due to various bumps in the road).

And the thing is ... do I want to? I enjoy making websites so far, I like working on my own personal site, and the concept of making nice sites for others, but like ... do I want to? Do I have to?

wholeass tho tracking habits sucks ass. it’s either having to use a checkmark system that feels demotivating as hell when you miss a day, or a daily reminder system that in like 3-4 days blends into the metaphorical background for me and i dismiss the notification

shit sucks!!!!

at least on a positive note i finished the bear blog migration so all my blog posts are under ... err, the blog post tag ...

monksandbones: The legs of two curlers, one delivering a yellow rock, one waiting with a broom, text "rock" (rock)
[personal profile] monksandbones
I just got back from the first curling game (and post-game beer) of the second half of the season for my Wednesday night Open League, and I have to do some dishes and go to bed very soon, but I must sneak in a little entry for today's [community profile] snowflake_challenge challenge #4 before I go.

Alas for the curling, my team lost. I made some shots, but overall I didn't play very well. Hopefully soon I'll get all the bad shots out of my body, and in the meantime, I'll dine on the sick shot I made to win our game for my Rookie League team last Sunday. Possibly I'm going to have to go to open practice ice one of these Saturdays, though!

Anyway, [community profile] snowflake_challenge. Challenge #4 is: Challenge #4: Rec The Contents Of Your Last Page

Any website that you like, be it fanfiction, art, social media, or something a bit more eccentric!

My last page, before I got to the challenge entry on my reading page, was the Greater Victoria Public Library page, where I was checking my position on the hold list for Heated Rivalry. I'm up to #2. Fingers crossed for this weekend! For most of you, my local library will not be your local library, and I'm sure I hardly need to say this for this crowd, but I do recommend your local library!

My other recommendations, perhaps at the "something a bit more eccentric" end of things, are some curling go-tos. For curling scores from all the events (ALL THE EVENTS) and rankings for all the teams with word curling rankings (ALL THE TEAMS), there's Curlingzone. Are their news reports up to date? No! Is their website user-friendly? Also no! But are the scores for, again, ALL THE EVENTS and rankings for again, ALL THE TEAMS there? OH HELL YES!

Also, for pro curling, there's the Grand Slam of Curling website, bringing you media and live and on-demand streaming from the Grand Slam of Curling pro curling tour, and the soon-to-be pro curling Rock League!

I thought I'd give a shot at doing a monthly wrap-up like I've seen from some other people!! I don't know how consistent I will be with it (when am I ever with my habit attempts? /j), but it might be a cool little wrap-up retrospective that combines my website changelog, now pages, and anything else I might've not noted anywhere.

Life Systems

Jan. 8th, 2026 12:46 am
asuraid: A drawing of Sylvie, an original Genshin character, with a thinking expression. (thinking)
[personal profile] asuraid

Inspired off smallcypress writing about her organizational/life systems and really wanted to try to document my own; truthfully I'm still feeling out mine, and as I read about other people's systems and try things out to see how they work (or shake things up), things change or may stop losing their effectiveness for the time until I return to them later.

I'll start from the most prominent that's stuck with me for years, and whittle down to 'use often', 'new to me still/not used as often', and 'used to do it, either didn't work or it's paused.

This is currently a blog post, but I'll most likely be mirroring it into an article page on my site, it just makes it easier to write it out here, then have a barebone idea of what I need to do for a layout/what to write.

As always, systems vary for everyone, I also need to remind myself that. Systems come and go, they grow and shape themselves with you, it's all what works for you by the end of everything.

Snowflake Challenge: A flatlay of a snowflake shaped shortbread cake, a mug with coffee, and a string of holiday lights on top of a rustic napkin.

Challenge #4: Rec The Contents Of Your Last Page

So, I skipped the last challenge because I couldn't come up with anything to say to any fandom or the concept of fandom in general (possibly because I was very eepy. But anyways), and I didn't have it in me to publicly write a love letter to a fictional character. This challenge made me truly realize that "fandom" for me right now is just me, the voices in my head, and sometimes ghosts from fandom past when I'm looking at abandoned sites and stuff. The few sites I use don't have the feeds tailored to show the fictional things I like, partly because the fandoms are small/dead and partly because I wanted to curb my socmed addiction by not making my feed too fun. So I hope it's okay to go a bit off-script and instead link three sites I like, not ones I've actually been on recently:

http://femicom.org/ is a site dedicated to games aimed at girls (@^◡^) Worldwide joseimuke... It's really cutely designed, and I like looking at all the pictures and games I've never heard of before! I've never submitted a memory before since I played 0 girl games as a child, but if you have any you should try submitting something and see if they'll still put it on the site. I like reading what memories exist too.

https://popnmusicdatabase.neocities.org/ I love Pop'n Music!! What little I've gotten to play, at least. This site has a wonderful design just like the colorful games it's dedicated too, and has lots and lots of info. I still haven't gotten through it all. Please God let me one day live by a place with a Pop'n booth please I don't wanna have to play on emulated console anymore please please please

https://nar-nar.neocities.org/ I have mentioned Navarre Fire Emblem twice (x, x) on my humble blog. I'm rather fond of him and his look, but maybe more than that I appreciate the concept of Navarre. Thank you IntSys for coming up with Navarres. So, I really love this fansite filled with images of him and promises of more to come in the future. I love sites that are filled with pictures. I love pictures. This is why I prefer fanart and doujins and such over fanfic. Yayyy stimulation for my eyes yayyyy ⸜(*^ᗜ^*)⸝ ⸜(*^ᗜ^*)⸝ ⸜(*^ᗜ^*)⸝ わーいわーい

apparently, i make edits now?

Me the past few days, when I accidentally made that Dabi playlist: Damn, it'd be so cool if someone made an edit of him with this song. Too bad I'm not really skilled at video editing.

Me earlier today: Actually, what if I—

Well, there you have it. A 33-second edit of MHA Dabi that I spent a good 8 hours on, edited using my phone because I am dumb and forgot I have a wholeass tablet where things would have been easier. (Spoilers for S7 and S8 of My Hero Academia)

Commentary, 417 words )

Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy it! I'm already thinking about another edit I wanna make (also MHA—TogaChako this time!) The cogwheels in my brain are spinning. But it's also berating me for procrastinating on an upcoming fandom event check-in. Oops.

Challenge #4: Rec The Contents Of Your Last Page

Any website that you like, be it fanfiction, art, social media, or something a bit more eccentric!

The last website that I was on was TheFanlistings.org! You might recognize it, as it's been around since 2000 as a directory of approved fanlistings.

What's a fanlisting? In the words of the site itself: "A fanlisting is simply an online listing of fans of a subject, such as a TV show, actor, or musician, that is created by an individual and open for fans from around the world to join. There are no costs, and the only requirements to join a fanlisting are your name and country. TheFanlistings.org is the original (but not only) web directory for fanlistings, dedicated to uniting fans across the globe."

Basically, it's an old-fashioned way to connect with other fans of a subject, by listing all fans who sign up in the same place for easy searching! They were popular in the early internet, when social media wasn't as prominent, so fellow fans were harder to find. They're making a comeback, thanks to the revival of the indie web, though!

If you want to join some fanlistings, I recommend browsing the approved fanlistings of TheFanlistings.org (as previously mentioned), and their partner site, AnimeFanlistings.com. You can put your Dreamwidth journal in the "website" space, so other fans can find your journal!

If you want to look through some fanlisting collectives (which is a website where somebody hosts their fanlistings), I recommend browsing through EPHEMERAL, which is a directory for exactly that! I have a fanlisting collective myself, as well. It's very small for now, and I aim to keep it that way.

I really like fanlistings, because it means that I don't have to put my stake in search engines and unreliable algorithms to find other fans. Plus, it doesn't have any requirements that you sign up to anything, unlike social media! You can find any fan across the whole, wide internet.

So, Shadow Milk Cookie's corruption involved ripping off his flowing, religious-coded robes, revealing a skintight bodysuit underneath. A skintight bodysuit that, mind you, he looks much happier in.

I’m stuck between wanting to commentate on the inherent queercoded nature of this, and just wanting to call him the word.

Do you ever see a piece of fiction that you wish you had gotten into as a kid? Like, you love it Now, but you wish you had the experience of enjoying it as a child, too? Although I often wish I could experience pieces of fiction for the first time again, too, so I suppose the grass is always greener.

I guess what I’m saying is that, in a universe slightly to the left from ours, a tweenage Azure became SICKENINGLY obsessed with Riku Kingdomhearts. Just an absolute BLOODBATH. Because if I have one thing in common with my tween self, it's undoubtedly that we both love mean queercoded characters who experience SHAME 🔥🔥💥💥💥🍾🎉🔥💥💥💥🎉

Write a love letter to fandom. It might be to fandom in general, to a particular fandom, favourite character, anything at all.

I hate to use the exact same fandom twice in a row, when I am a multifandom girlie at heart, but I feel like this couldn't be for any other fandom but Pokemon. You'll understand why thanks to the contents of the letter itself.

reeby10: the lower half of a person laying on grass and reading with the words 'time to escape' and a ripped looking border (reading)
[personal profile] reeby10
It's been awhile, so this gets a bit long!

Reading
  • Read a bit more of Clariel by Garth Nix. I was having a bit of a hard time getting into it, but I think I'm mostly past that now.
  • I started reading High Stakes and Bloody Business, an anthology of vampire whump stories the roommate was published in last year. I'd already read her story of course, but I'm enjoying the others as well!
  • I started reading Dominicana by Angie Cruz, the current read for my work book club. I am uhhh not enjoying it. It's not a genre I particularly like anyway, but the family dynamics and domestic violence is especially not. Our meeting got postponed two weeks and I'm not sure if I'll try to finish or just DNF bc I'm not even halfway yet.
  • Firmly back into reading fic, yay! I got some excellent gifts for Yuletide and have been reading my way through the rest of the collection (rec list later!). I've also been reading a lot of JunDylan from ThamePo and NutHong, and having a good time :D Currently I'm reading a NutHong college AU series called And If They Talk... by [archiveofourown.org profile] firstknpn .
Watching
  • The roommate and I finished Project Alpha. So much fun! I loved seeing the boys getting more comfortable with each other. And of course the performances were great.
  • The roommate and I watched Alpha Roommates, a follow up for Project Alpha about the winners going on a bonding trip before debuting as a band. So freaking cute!
  • The roommate and I finished Idol Energy. Very fun, and I enjoyed seeing Perses since I didn't know any of them before.
  • The roommate ad i started watching Cherry Magic. I've read most of the manga and watched the Japanese drama when it first aired, so I was really excited for this. And I have not been disappointed! So cute and sweet and funny.
  • The roommate, best friend, and I watched the latest episode of Goddess Bless You From Death. The spookiness and mystery continues to be banger.
  • The roommate, best friend, and I watched the latest episodes of Me and Thee. Love this show so much, ugh. I'm sad it's going to be over soon :(
  • The roommate, best friend, and I watched the latest episode of Burnout Syndrome. Wild show, enjoying it a lot.
  • The roommate, best friend, and I watched the latest episode of Melody of Secrets. The mystery continues to deepen and hasn't really started to become more clear yet lol
  • The roommate, best friend and I started watching Dare You to Death. A bit of a slow start imo, but I'm looking forward to more. Especially with so many actors I like!
  • The roommate, best friend, and I started watching ThamePo Heart That Skips a Beat. A rewatch for the roommate and I, and still so good! Especially after watcing so much more LYKN stuff.
  • I watched Thundercloud Rainstorm. A Korean BL this time! I'd been seeing a lot of it on tumblr that looked intriguing (D/S, cousin incest... the good stuff lol), and I did enjoy it quite a lot.
  • I rewatched The Muppet Christmas Carol while I was home for Christmas. A very good movie, of course.
  • We also watched Five Golden Rings, a Hallmark Mysteries Christmas movie. I was mostly there for Holland Roden, but it was a pretty good movie.
  • I watched Nomura's Giant Swarm, a documentary about Giant Nomura Jellyfish taking over the waters around Japan and causing a lot of problems for the fishing industry there. Very interesting!
  • The roommate and I went to see Anaconda in theaters. It was pretty much just as expected, which is to say I had a great time :)
Listening
  • As per usual, I've listened to a lot of t-pop, LYKN in particular.
  • Caught up on some more Ouija Broads episodes. I'm really glad they're back posting even if there's a lot of time between episodes!
  • Also started catching up on some Happier with Gretchen Rubin episodes. I really enjoy their stuff around New Year's, with goals and words of the year and all that.
  • Idk if this really counts in this category, but I started listening to Pimsleur's Thai, which is an audio language learning system. This one's for Thai, obviously lol Because I am determined to learn! I did the first lesson and it was pretty hard, so we'll see how it goes.
Writing
  • I started writing one of my overdue holiday ficlets. It's for a fandom I don't know so uhhh it's taking some time.
  • Wrote a poem.
  • I started writing a fic for Thundercloud Rainstorm because... well, I really needed some canon divergence mpreg lol
