howdy all

I mainly wanted something to link to my ⌞personal website⌝ for updates and such. I've decided to make the switch from wordpress to support indieweb ٩(ˊᗜˋ*)و So I am officially retiring the OG. Originally I wanted to move over all my posts, but I think I'll just be starting over. My original blog was mostly focused around fashion/makeup/travel and whatever else (oh the early 2000's)-- I've had my blog there for over a decade? I had just been using layouts from etsy I never fully loved, but now I can just make my own ₍ᐢ. ̫.ᐢ₎‧₊˚ I also love me some good customization options and love making any kind of space cute lol. My content for this journal will likely be similar but in a much less cringe influencer kind of way lol As well as just a bunch of daily life stuff, my 3yo son (frenchie), random brain dumps, interests and current fixations:

  • gaming

  • editing (videos/photos)

  • digital art

  • coding

  • cute things

I'll also probably occasionally complain about how embarrassing it is to live in the US, that's just a given.

Disclaimer:

I don't claim any of the backgrounds/art as my own unless otherwise stated. I always credit when possible but some things are just hard to find the source for, but otherwise everything will be credited under my [credit] tag. If you see something of yours and would like credit or for it to be removed, please let me know!

so as some of you may know. i like selfshipping! or as some call it, yumeshipping, tho i tend to default to saying selfship lol. theres plenty of characters i selfship with, but main ones are Sannan Keisuke (Hakuouki) and Kasane Ted (UTAU) (note that i also separately ship Ted with my own UTAU Visp Verity). theres some others still high up there, like Est and Oboro (Yumekuro), Jade Curtiss (Tales of the Abyss) (still playing the game. no spoilers pls!), etc... i used to mainly selfship with Jinguji Jakurai from Hypnosis Mic, but ive really fallen out of Hypmic. ill keep all the fanmerch in memory of when that spark was alive, but yknow. prob wont commission jakuray ever again (':

anyways. i wanted to share some selfship art ive commissioned over time! :D

Ted/Ray by mayordea on VGen

ok so. the framing is SO wonderful here!! ive been obsessed w this commission ever since i got it! the pose, the atmosphere, everything... so lovely!!
ive loved kasane ted since the very early days, considering i got into vocaloid + utau in 2008, so being able to selfship w him now is so freeing.. (i used to deal with friends, now ex friends, being huge haters on anything they deemed "cringe" including selfship. fuck that !!)

anyways. please commission my mutual mayordea! ive gotten like 3 commissions (other 2 are ocs) and its always so amazing!

Sannan/Ray by spinachsquare on VGen

Sannan beloved... played Hakuouki in 2018 and fell in luv with Sannan! this commission is sooo cute, i adore it sm!! the pose is so fitting, + i love their art style here a ton (:
ive been planning on replaying Hakuouki and making my bf watch and absorb it LOL he does want to see Sannan's route. so much happens. dont worry about it, i understand his depression, internalized ableism, and why he acts the way he does. does that mean ill fix him? well not exactly, a relationship doesnt cure someone of all their problems and mental health. however. im not here to fix him, im here to understand and support him and kiss him

fun fact. Sannan is 5'8, im 5'7 irl. practically the same height lol

someday ill design a Hakuouki-specific outfit for my sona.. its on my to do list with my full sona ref! the above is my standard outfit. and, well, id probably want to do two outfits considering the shift between kyoto winds VS edo blossoms

ok i was gonna share like 2 more but im getting tired. struggling to sleep tonight for hours so i got on pc, alas my brain is slowing down. mayhaps ill be able to sleep?! find out next time... or something lmao

Challenge #7: LIST THREE (or more) THINGS YOU LIKE ABOUT YOURSELF. They don’t have to be your favorite things, just things that you think are good. Feel free to expand as much or as little as you want.

This is really hard as I have bad self-esteem and you'll probably see that some of these are based on how other people validated me through their own perceptions, and how I was merely influenced by those, but I will try:

  1. I like my sense of humor. I think I'm pretty damn funny. Well, not by myself, but when I have someone to bounce off on.
  2. I like my taste in music! Some genres I like are k-pop, j-pop/j-rock, indie, alt rock, pop punk, and new wave. My recent post with music recommendations was well-received, which felt really good. (Even if it wasn't, I would still think my music taste is the bee's knees.)
  3. I like that I have thoughts and can sometimes articulate them. A lot of times they're not 100% comprehensible or meaningful (just variations of "wow I loved this" or "wow this sucks") but I think it's more about having thoughts about things and putting them out there, or talking about them with someone. I think that's important, especially during times when people make others feel like it's bad to have an opinion or to be outspoken.
  4. I like that parents seem to like me a lot. (My own parents not included.) Idk why that is, exactly, but my friends' parents and my partner's mom like me even though I'm not like... the perfect child. I guess it's just because I'm polite and treat their kids nicely? Lol. It does feel a bit weird when my friends say, "Oh my mom didn't like this other friend," because it's like... damn, what did they do to be disliked?
  5. I like that I'm semi-decent at rhythm games. I think it's a cool skill to show off to non-rhythm gamers.
  6. I like that my former coworkers remember me as someone with a good work ethic. This is not entirely true, I'm not a square, but I do take pride in being communicative and being as thorough as possible with my work, as it was both client-facing and customer-facing.

Acts of Violets (A Flower Shop Mystery, #5)Acts of Violets by Kate Collins

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

View all my reviews

I had but two short chapters of my work book to read, so I brought it home and finished it this evening. It was Acts of Violets by Kate Collins, and it’s the 5th in the “Flower Shop” series of cozy mysteries, starring florist Abby Knight.

While attending the Pickle Fest parade, Abby gets into a confrontation with Snuggles the clown. When her boyfriend, Marco, has words with him, and Snuggles later turns up dead, Marco becomes the prime suspect in the clown’s death. Marco asks Abby to do some sleuthing on the sly, reasoning that people tend to open up to her. Abby isn’t sure she’s the woman for the job, but she’ll do anything to clear Marco’s name, including having lunch with odious Greg Morgan, interviewing other clowns, and stooping to a little breaking and entering. Abby’s investigation, however, has drawn the attention of the killer, and now she’s the one who’s in danger.

I typically find myself rolling my eyes at how damned dumb Abby can be in this series, but in this book, Marco was the dumb one. Honestly, what was he thinking?! Eh. Abby was a bit more circumspect this time around, not that it spared her winding up in mortal danger at the end of the book. Mystery authors, please rethink this overdone trope. I mean, how many times can your main character narrowly escape death? I know it’s meant to be exciting, but it actually becomes tedious after about the third book. All that aside, characterizations were good, plot was well-paced and proceeded in an orderly fashion. I could have done without Abby’s airhead of a mother and Marco’s overbearing one.

Favorite lines:
♦ “Snuggles the Clown threatened you?”
♦ Ordinarily, I don’t eat ice cream before lunch, but after being shoved and threatened and stained with mustard, I felt a strong need to soak my irritated nerves in butterfat.
♦ “Never trust a clown. They’ll toss you into a burning building without giving it a second thought.”
♦ At the front door we were swarmed by small, whimpering bodies with oozing orifices and sticky fingers, making my ovaries shrink up in fear.
♦ I loved it when men thought they’d come up with an original idea.
♦ A remorseful, bad-tempered, raving stilt walker. Was there any worse kind?
♦ “I think your mother would understand that finding a killer to save your backside is a little more important than her lasagna.” // “You don’t know my mother.”
♦ “Do me a favor. Hold the pillow over my face and end my misery.”
♦ You did it, you clever, multitalented cat woman!
♦ “You hung in there, even when there was nothing left to hang on to.”

Good enough to earn four stars.

You know what's cool and fun*? Puttering around doing life and then getting reminded that we actually, not that long ago, all went through a traumatic, life-altering pandemic.

I was sorting through my storage cube of sewing bits and pieces, putting all the alike bits together rather than having a box of chaos. Then realised that I've apparently been hoarding mask elastic.

IMG20260114101529

There was a wild time in 2020/21 when there were no masks available to buy so people started sewing their own. Including me. That lead to a complete absence of small elastic in craft stores. You could no buy it for love nor money.

And then merely a year later is was on clearance. (Repeatedly, it seems.) And I've been buying it because you never know what fresh hell is around the corner.

*not actually cool or fun at all.

It was -40 again today, so the bookstore was closed..I wasn't expecting that this morning! We passed another cold milestone too:

The National Weather Service said "With yet another subzero day in Fairbanks today, we have officially reached the 2nd longest stretch of subzero temperatures in Fairbanks since 1904 [did they mean 1918?]. This has been the longest stretch of below zero temperatures in 73 years or since 1953." Wow..though I'm tired of all the people who have been here for decades saying the weather right now isn't a big deal because in the 70s and 80s it got to -50 before Halloween. I wasn't even ALIVE then, of course it's a big deal for people who haven't experienced it! There's going to be a huge change though..on Friday it's supposed to get to 17 ABOVE zero! That's going to feel amazing haha..getting bundled up for subzero weather is tiring :P

My cousin Eric (dad's nephew) passed away from cancer today. He was only in his 50s! I'm sure Uncle Jack is devastated, because he was super devoted to Eric. I *think* I last saw Eric in Hawaii in 2016..I definitely need to see dad's side of the family more often! He loved surfing and bike riding, so hopefully he's having fun in the afterlife doing those things :)

The dreaded "say nice things about yourself" challenge has appeared at [community profile] snowflake_challenge!

While we’re busy celebrating fandom, it’s good to remember to celebrate ourselves, too. Fandom is all of us! I know it’s often easier to talk about what we like about other people than it is to talk nicely about ourselves, but challenge yourself here --

i ... hm!! i mean i at least can think of a few, i'm just always bad at hyping myself up with stuff cause i'm just like ... it's just things i do LOL
  1. I like trying out new stuff and thus having resources for things; which makes it easier for me to share resources if other people get into it as well (like coding, game dev, art stuff, game stuff in general like mods, resources, etc)
  2. I like that I'm good at games!! I won't say I'm the best, but I can pride myself in figuring out how to play games and adapt to them. I mean I'd hope I do ...
  3. I like that I keep trying to improve my systems of living/organizing; which means learning what works for me and doesn't, and coming to cope with the fact that sometimes they just don't work out, or get dropped for months and returned to, etc

I know why, but: why

On the one hand, it is sort of obvious why I've decided I want to have another go at working out how Continental knitting works for a project that involves reversible cables and ribbing on DPNs.

On the OTHER, this feels like a bit of a trial-by-fire given that my problem has historically been tension...

[Day 0: Tuesday , September 26, 2017]

Jules inserted the copy of his graduation certificate in the newly purchased accordion file only an inch thick, and now used instead of a three ring binder in his backpack. The gesture, and the weight of the new safety deposit box key on his key ring, made him feel more adult in ways that blowing out birthday candles simply had not. He scanned the printed email, checked his lodgings for any forgotten items, folded the thin plastic laundry bag that the hostel had provided, and tucked it into the small side pocket on his backpack opposite the mesh one where his water bottle already sat, full and ready for use.

Comment: I honestly think Fleming phoned this book in! The thugs behave idiotically, Bond’s heroic rescue of Viv involves him dragging her across the ground by her feet (he couldn’t have picked her up?!) and a man who in other books has dealt with hoards of bad guys is suddenly telling her he’s 007 in case he doesn’t survive dealing with these two incompetent thugs?! And Viv is rather quick to decide Bond isn't like the other men she's been involved with, when she's only just met him ...

Chapter 13: Read more... )

Comment: Well, Viv is very much both in the action and in trouble in this chapter! Bond is … less efficient than I would’ve expected, but it’s a long time since I read the other books.

I signed up for get your words out, meaning I'll be spending 300 days this year writing. I plan on holding myself acountable and writing something, anything until I'm writing regularly. Here's something I got from Abbie Emmons of youtube, an author who has had a successful career so far, it's a questionnare to help you achieve your writing goals.

2026 Writing Goals

1. Find your why Before you begin setting your writing goals, sort out the deeper reasons behind why you want to accomplish these goals.

When I imagine my dream author life, what does it look like?

I get up every morning and write until I need to take a break, then return to writing in the evening for a few hours. I want to get up every day around 5 o'clock in the morning and just write. Anything, everything. I see myself being successful, being a best selling author. It'll take grit, a little money and most importantly the fact that I actually write. I see myself doing book signings or author q and a's. I'll be nervous when it comes to that, but I know I can do it.

What first action steps can I take now to make this dream a reality?

Start writing everyday, no matter what time it is. But most importantly forcing myself to get out of bed on a regular basis and writing in the mornings. Going to bed every night. I plan on getting my days and nights switched around so I can do this. I don't want to see my dreams pass me by.

What writing projects am I the most excited about this year and why?
My fantasy novel involving a bard and his brother a knight, possibly making the bard a lot like aragon from lord of the rings. I have an idea brewing for it.

My Urban Fantasy Novel, about a young girl or boy who has magical abilities and has seven major archdemons to kill. (Basically)

my soap opera novel series about older and younger queer people who are in love and crazy shit is happening to them all the time.

There's a few more that have been stuck in my head for awhile. (I also have trouble writing because I'm afraid I won't have the mind to write certain stories, some of them are intelligent thought provoking POC thrillers and I don't even have a highschool education)

2. Begin with the end in mind If you don’t reverse-engineer your timeline, you’re going to be plodding forward into eternity with no end in sight. You need a finish line to help you measure the distance you must cover to reach it.

By this time next year I want to… be writing full time, (plus exercising daily, I think that'll help with writing too to be honest) plus writing in the mornings and in the evenings with exercising in between.

Starting at the end, what step comes before that? And before that?

To have written everyday, before that, to have written everyday and got my days and nights switched around in order for it to happen.

How does each action step connect to the final goal?

Exercise plus health goals help me get my mental health together. Not to mention they're upping my medications and that means I'll be able to focus more often and actually write.

3. Be realistic We all have limitations and that’s not a bad thing. Factor in your current priorities in life and accept the fact that you might not be able to devote all the time you want to devote to this particular goal this year. Be realistic.

Realistically, how much time can I devote each month/week/day to furthering my writing goals?

Four hours a day, possibly between exercising and writing on my relaxing downtime moments. so possibly 5-6 hours a day. Honestly.

If I could only accomplish one priority goal this year, which one would I choose?

To write everyday plus exercise. I can do it. Exercising is very important though because I need to get my legs stronger so I can stand properly and walk.

If I had a best friend who had the exact same lifestyle and responsibilities as I do, what advice would I give them?

Just take it one day at a time, eventually motivation and discipline comes. It creeps inside you, just think about it everyday until you get angry or upset and then that should drive you. Think about it until you're exhausted. make it your obsession. Obsess over it instead of food or drugs, do it until your mind is ready to finally start applying itself.

4. Give yourself more time than you think you need Even if it’s just a month or a couple of weeks. You’ll thank yourself later. And you’ll never regret giving yourself more time.

Considering all my other responsibilities, what’s the soonest date I could accomplish this goal by? What would happen if I pushed that date off a month?

I don't have a lot of responsibilities besides getting myself better. I have 300 days to accomplish this goal, my end date is December 31st 2026. If I pushed the date off a month, I wouldn't finish my challenge and that would make me feel very sad. I'm tired of failing, I want to raise up and actually do what must be done. I know I can do it. it takes courage, guts and fortitude.

5. Establish a system that suits your current lifestyle and set yourself up for success Rather than setting a goal and plowing your way towards it, mindfully consider all the things in your life that you can’t change and how you’re going to work around those things to accomplish your writing goals this year.

Considering my current lifestyle, is there anything I can say “no” to so that I can say “yes” to writing?
Writing instead of snacking all the time. Honestly, I need to do that. I can also stay awake despite being trapped in a bed, meaning if I wake up, I can start writing instead of feeling trapped all the time.

What distractions am I in control of? Can I remove those roadblocks before they trip me up?

Food, sleep and feeling uncomfortable. Writing sometimes feels uncomfortable to me, because I'm trying to feel something that isn't there. You're not going to feel like writing all the time, so you need to build a habit and discipline yourself. so that's what I'll do.

How can I protect my energy and creativity so I don’t get burned out?
Turn off discord, turn off videos and just write. That's how I keep myself from burning out.

At the suggestion of one of my neocities neighbours, I thought I'd partake and unpack my experiences with various social medias (some with intentions of being used for art as well) and how I felt about them. Keep in mind this is from a vibes standpoint and less of TOS or other things, some of the things I may not have direct links to and it's more of stuff I've heard, and it's more how I felt as a person on there + the community.

Being able to hold a personal and art account contributes a bit to some of it, but not a lot (it's rare for me to be very personal on my art accounts, it feels too weird for me :( ).
