Of course it would be Jonathan Jones making these overheated speculations, wouldn't it? Did Leonardo da Vinci paint a nude Mona Lisa? I may have just solved this centuries-old mystery.

We do wish he would go and look at some landscapes, or maybe abstracts, for a change, though doubtless he would find some female sexual symbolism to perve over there.

Cannot help feeling that he is just some point on a spectrum away from this very weird - not sure if it entirely constitutes a subculture? The Goon Squad: Loneliness, porn’s next frontier, and the dream of endless masturbation Very NSFW and rather creepy - the author in an interview cops to Perverse Exhilaration which may have something to do with discomfort at the tone as well as the actual matter?

There was a piece in Guardian Saturday about people who fall in love with their AI companions, and want to marry then and have children with them, and apparently some women also bond with them, but so far this is not online that I can find. Based on a book that's coming out?

This past Monday morning while I was over at moms she gave me one of the most important things I think I could ever get from my dad: ancestry paperwork and obituaries! There is a descendant report that goes back to the year 1872 when my one ancestor Charles Slaby was born on November 2nd. He was from Bohemia - the village of Vlastec. It then tells how he met and married a woman named Anna Kovar from Cleveland Ohio. She was born June 17th of the same year - 1872 and they were married November 11th 1894, 22 years old. So at some point he was possibly the first ancestor from my dad's Slaby side to come over here to the states before or during 1894. At least that's how it's written up... Then it goes into more details of names and relatives. Three pages of records!!

There are also some very old obituaries and cards from the funerals in the envelope. some relatives who died in the 1930's. Some are somewhat faded but overall they are in good shape. The cards don't give a ton of information besides when they died but I've been able to see some of that information from the family decent report. My dad even wrote out some more notes on the Slaby side starting with his grandfather George Slaby who was born October 19th, 1899 and his wife Anna Matuska (my dad's grandmother) who was born June 2n, 1904.

I've been wanting to see these notes for years and have been asking my dad for years but he could never find them. About a year or two ago my dad accused me of having them and wanting them back - but I had no idea they even existed. I'm sure he' happy to see them now being read and looked into. My mom gave me these papers so now I can go on and try to do some research and learn more. I'd like to try to learn more about their jobs, where they lived in those areas (mostly the Cleveland area here in Ohio) and hobbies. Wish me luck - I'll start doing this more seriously in a few weeks I think.

It's been a bit of time since I wrote one of these and these days reading is what gives me the biggest comfort out of all my hobbies. If any of you use Storygrah or Goodreads and would like to add me, let me know. I feel like half of these books came from the library and half came from ones I own. So here I am again telling you all of my recent books I've been enjoying:

'Dying: A Memoir' By Cory Taylor
This book I picked up because it reminder me of my mother and her condition and conversations we've been having in recent months. It was good overall but at times I felt like I lost connection. I made some notes from the book as I read it in the late summer after my nephew Alex passed away.

'My sisters keeper' By Jodi Picoult
I've always been a big fan of this author and this book was no exception. I had a hard time putting it down and the ending completely surprised me. I own several of her books and plan on reading more as time goes on.

'Jo's Boys' By Louisa May Alcott
While reading this book was the period in my life that I lost my father so to be honest I remember opening pages and reading the words but it was difficult to keep concertation and track of what was happening. In the future someday I plan on rereading the three books in order - Little women, Little men & Jos boys so I can make better sense of the characters in the later two books.

'Learning to live with OCD and anxiety: Separating myths and facts' By Katie Mercer
I think I read this book in a few days - it was pretty short and I skimmed over some of it. After reading it the parts of OCD don't seem to match with how I feel and do things but I could relate to some of the anxiety parts.

'GriefShare Survival guide: Navigating the holidays after loss' By The church initiative
While this book was given to me with good intentions I had a difficult time getting into it because of the religious background. I'm sure these books are very useful for those who have those beliefs but for myself I just couldn't get into it. I think I may rehome it to a free little library.

'And every morning the way home gets longer and longer' By Fredrik Backman
This one is about a father and a grandfather who is communicating with his son and grandson. Sometimes it goes into the man's head and he's talking to his wife who has passed on. It's a somewhat deep and sad story, short but meaningful.

'A celebration of animation: The 100 greatest cartoon characters in television history' By Martin Gitlin & Joseph Wos
In some ways I liked this book and in other ways it felt too long. The title says 100 but there are clearly more than 100 characters they touch base on and talk about. Some of the characters I enjoyed learning more about and others I never heard of. I ended up giving this book to my boyfriend because he ejnoys watching cartoons more than I do.

'It's okay that you're not okay: Meeting grief and loss in a culture that doesn't understand' By Megan Devine
I enjoyed this grief book more since it felt like it got straight to the point. The author lost her husband to a drowning accident suddenly. She write about the raw and heartbreaking experience of it and the aftermath and how society really can be clueless to those going through loss. At times the book was so sad it made me cry I had to put it down but it did help me overall.

'Cairn Terriers: Everything about purchase, care, nutrition, grooming, behavior and training' By Patricia Lehman
Because of taking in Fynn - my father's dear dog - was the reason I got this book. It was a good read, short and informative. I've never owned a dog that was a full bread, only mutts - so it was interesting to learn about this breed I knew little about. The pictures throughout were adorable.

'Sunrise on the reaping' Susan Collins
Of course I recently wrote about this book - Just a week or two ago. It was a good book but I don't think I liked it as much as I liked the other hunger game books I've read. It was bittersweet to learn more about the lore of the world and characters tied in together. I'm curious is there will be more HG books coming out - if there are I hope they cover other districts. I feel like we've spent enough time in 12, it would be neat to learn about the others.

'Klondikes, chipped ham & skyscraper cones: The story of Isaly' By Brian Butko
One of my dad's favorite ice creams were klondikes. While at my friend Jenny's home I noticed this book and they let me borrow it. It was the first book of 2026 I finished. While it was a short read it was informative with lots of old adds, prices and pictures. The history of Isaly was bittersweet but I feel like a-lot of companies start off well and then go down some difficult times.

'Unfamiliar: Volume 2' By Haley Newsome
I found the first volume of this book while at my local library last year. It was a good book and I found of there was a second volume I just had to check it out. I'm glad I did. It's about some misfit characters and their little adventures and lives. I love the art. It's just a simple graphic novel to enjoy. It'll be nice to read the third one if the author is able to write up one.

'More days at the Morisaki bookshop' By Satoshi Yagisawa
This is another book I found the first one at my local library last year. I got it in an event where they wrapped up the books and you just had to pick one by the description. It's a simple, short and slice of life sort of tale about an introvert young woman who sort of finds herself while being at her uncle's bookshop in Japan. I liked the writing style, the characters and the plot. This is the second one and it carries on with the girl, her job, relationships and life. It is a bit darker than the first and deals with some emotional stuff but is still a heartwarming story to read.

Challenge #5

In your own space, create a list of at least three things you'd love to receive, a wishlist of sorts.

I'm sooo happy to see a version of this challenge back! I loved fulfilling people's wishlists last year~ As for myself, I have a couple! (Don't mind the soft-recycling of my [community profile] holiday_wishes list...)

1. Help me move! I'm currently saving up to move out of my parents' home! They forbid me from going on HRT, so I'm trying to move ASAP. Plus, I live in a red state with lots of anti-trans legislation.

My Paypal.me is here, and my Ko-fi is here!

2. Comments on my fics! I am AzureMist on AO3, and some fandoms I've written for include Dungeon Meshi, MILGRAM, Splatoon, and Pokémon, among other things! If you're familiar with any of the fandoms I've written for, from 2021 onward, I'd really, really appreciate it if you could spare some kind words!

3. Digital giftcards! Specifically Nintendo eShop, Steam, Pokémon Center and DoorDash gift cards! I have a long gaming-related wishlist, so if you could help make even a dent in that, it would be very appreciated. The Pokémon Center is the official Pokémon merch store, and Pokémon is my one true fandom, so it makes sense why I would love some items from there (especially Pokémon plushies, as I collect them)! And lastly, DoorDash cards will be used for yummy treats~

4. Support for my art accounts! A share, a kind comment, or maybe even a follow for any of my art accounts would warm my heart!! It's brutal out here for us artists online in this day and age... I am primarily active on Tumblr and Bluesky!

5. Paid time on Tumblr and Dreamwidth! I'm azuremist on Tumblr! Tumblr is my main online platform of choice, so I'd get a ton of usage out of it, and I'd love to get more icons on Dreamwidth!

6. Spare my beloved's site some kind words! This one's a secret, okay? Don't mention that I sent you! But my long-suffering husband has a simple website! It contains things like some of his art, and a work-in-progress guide to shiny hunting. Pup often gets discouraged with pups site, and hasn't updated it in a while because of it. So, please consider looking around, then signing the guestbook at the bottom of the homepage with some kind words!

7. Steam games! Steam gift cards too much of a hassle? I understand. (What kinda digital store doesn't let you send an e-gift card by email? In 2026??) Then maybe consider gifting me a game more directly with Humble Bundle! I have a lot of visual novels on my wishlist; specifics include Canvas Menagerie, Love Curse: Find Your Soulmate, Afterlove EP, Necrobarista, Heart of the Woods, and Letters  From a Rainy Day -Oceans and Lace-.

8. Consider joining and posting to my Dungeon Meshi comm if you're a fan? [community profile] dunmeshi I try to keep the community active by doing reoccuring posts, but I don't think anybody else has ever posted to it except in the comments. Rec something (including self-recs), post your meta, art, anything at all!

My email is azures.mist@protonmail.com, and my Steam account is azuremists! Much love~

On many of the fannish websites we use, our history is easily compileable into "pages". When we look back through those pages, sometimes we stumble upon things that we think are rather cool.

Challenge #4: Rec The Contents Of Your Last Page

Any website that you like, be it fanfiction, art, social media, or something a bit more eccentric!

Rather than actual last pages, since I feel like I've spent a lot of time the last couple of days tracking Storm Goretti (which oddly passed more or less right over me with very little impact in terms of snow), I'll just ramble that I've spent most time recently on my DW reading page, on Dark's fandom wiki to remind myself of Gretchen the dog's history for Challenge #2 as she was my chosen pet, and AO3.

Getting caught up.

Snowflake Challenge: A warmly light quaint street of shops at night with heavy snow falling.

Today’s challenge is a chance to express your love to fandom, and what better way than a love letter? If you feel really creative, the letter doesn’t have to come from you. You could write as your favourite character, someone completely fictitious or your past or future self - or just as you in this moment.

Write a love letter to fandom. It might be to fandom in general, to a particular fandom, favourite character, anything at all.

To Dark,

You're complicated as hell, and I'm not over the fates that the vast majority of the characters ended up with in the finale (even though the family tree makes it difficult to see how it could easily end any other way. Believe me, I've spent the last two years trying to work out a way that I can do it for one particular fic.) But you have great casting (seriously, just take a look at the Young/Middle aged/Old actors. At least one of the actors playing an 81 year old version of one character still surprises people to this day that he's not the 48 year old version in makeup and a wig.) and characters, and have provided me with so much writing inspiration.

To Lost,

My first fandom, and still my all time favourite, the one that first got me exploring the backstories of lesser ficced characters (and trust me, you have a lot) and playing with timelines, the one that first led me to start getting to know other fans, and the one that still has some influence over a lot of my more recent fandom choices. (Except you, Mr. Smoke Monster. Even 15 years on, you can jog on.)

To From,

The other one of my all time top three, that I wish was more appreciated and better known, but trust me, I'm trying to rectify that. Loving the characters, enjoying the mystery (we are starting to get answers at this point, so it doesn't seem to be a "making it up as they go along" thing) and you were the source of my favourite piece of fandom merch (Jade's cat shirt).
